SIGMACHAIN Signs Agreement with Accommodation Newspaper to Promote Piki
SIGMACHAIN,
recognized as a leader in blockchain technology both domestically and
internationally, signed a business agreement with Accommodation Newspaper (CEO Yoon Yeowang)
on August 20. This partnership marks the launch of Piki, a new social
networking service (SNS) designed for the Web 3.0 era, timed to coincide with
Korea’s Liberation Day. Piki combines blockchain and augmented reality (AR)
technology to record and store everyday moments based on location. Upon
downloading and activating the Piki app, an AR camera appears, allowing users
to capture the vibrant stories around them. The AR Log, which merges reality
with digital content, offers a highly immersive experience.
AR
Log, which allows users to freely document their lives without spatial limitations,
is set to change the way people capture their memories. Traditional photography
merely preserved an image, but with the new AR Log, users can document their
personal memories anytime, without the risk of them being altered by others.
Memories recorded through AR are securely protected by blockchain technology,
preventing the loss of precious photos and memories due to phone or computer
failures. Users can also control the visibility of their information through
settings, as blockchain is optimized for protecting personal data. As
businesses such as accommodations and restaurants use Piki’s AR camera to
capture photos and videos, the recording process naturally doubles as
promotion. The more people use Piki, the more widely these businesses can
promote themselves.
Blockchain-based
AR logs enhance trust between users, making shared memories and stories feel
more authentic. As more experiences are shared, the Piki app’s reliability will
only grow, and people will inevitably be drawn to it. Based on these features, Accommodation Newspaper has pledged to
support the activation of the Piki app. According to Article 2 of the
agreement, the partnership includes mutual exchange and cooperation regarding
blockchain mainnet supply and partnerships.
To
ensure the success of this collaboration, Sigma Chain has committed to
supporting the hospitality industry’s longstanding wish to establish a
‘fee-free reservation culture’ by helping reduce advertising and commission
costs.
During
the signing ceremony, Sigma Chain CEO Do-Young Kwak expressed his confidence in
Piki, saying, "We believe that Piki, armed with the most advanced
technologies of this era—blockchain, AR, and location-based services—will
become the most beloved SNS." He added, "Just as Accommodation Newspaper has been loved by
the hospitality industry for 29 years, we expect that Piki will gradually solve
the advertising and commission issues that burden the accommodation booking
process." In response, Accommodation
Newspaper CEO Yoon Yeowang stated, "While the advancement of
smartphone technology has successfully helped many businesses promote and
increase sales across spaces, it has also resulted in significant costs. I
firmly believe that Piki will help ease the burdens of small business owners,
especially in the hospitality sector."
